On the table

Some sets live on a shelf. This one is meant to be picked up and carried. The 15.6 by 15.6 inch wooden board folds shut around its pieces and opens again in seconds, which makes it as handy for a kitchen-table lesson as for an afternoon outdoors with family and friends.

Our pieces are handcrafted from solid wood: 16 in a light tone, 16 in coffee, with crisp, clear shapes that are easy to tell apart. A magnetic hold keeps them planted through bumps, breezes and travel. When the game ends, every piece goes back to its own slot, protected from scratches and silent in transit.

Two bonus queens come in the box, so a promoted pawn never has to be an upside-down rook. The set arrives in a gift package, ready for the chess lover in your life — or for your own table.
