On the table

Instead of folding, this board keeps its shape and hides the storage in its sides. Two built-in drawers slide out, one on each side, and every piece rests in a dedicated slot. The cabinet measures 12.8 by 12.8 by 2.2 inches, compact enough to go into a backpack for a picnic or an afternoon in the park.

We make the board from solid wood and polish it so it resists scratches and stains. The Staunton pieces are handcrafted from carefully chosen wood, finished smooth so they move quietly, and fitted with magnets that hold them to the board when the weather turns windy or the game goes traveling. Two extra queens are included.

It comes in gift packaging, and it is the kind of set that gets handed down. For a child, it is a good reason to look up from a screen; for a family, a reason to sit down together.
