Two extra queens are included in the box for pawn promotion
Polished surface lets the pieces move smoothly across the board

On the table

This is the set we make for people who leave a board out on purpose. The solid wood top is finished with a piano-style baked lacquer, polished until it has the same gloss and glide as the instrument. At 16.9 inches across, it has the presence of furniture and stays put on the table.

The pieces are cast in high polymer resin with added weight, so each move lands with quiet authority. The king stands 3.75 inches tall, and the queen, rooks, bishops, knights and pawns are scaled to match. Two drawers, each 15.6 inches and fitted with slots, hold every piece in order alongside the instruction manual.

Two extra queens are included. We see it as equal parts game and keepsake — a set worth collecting, worth giving, and just as much at home in a living room as in an office.

What players say

Unsanded drawer slots could cause damage over time
Very pretty, everything came in perfect condition. My only beef was that inside the drawer slots it was extremely dusty and the finish is rough like sand paper, so I expect it to eventually chafe and scratch the drawers finish away over time. Otherwise it's a great set and I'd say it's worth the money.
