On the table

Chess tonight, checkers tomorrow — the same board handles both. We build it from solid wood, with squares spliced from wood in two different colors so the natural grain shows through. Every surface and corner is sanded smooth. Opened flat, it gives you a full 15 inches of playing area.

The chess pieces follow the Staunton pattern and are crafted from solid wood, with a king that stands 3 inches tall for players who prefer larger pieces. Alongside the complete chess set and two extra queens you get 24 checkers. Everything is magnetic, so a game on a train or in a moving car holds together.

When play ends, the board folds into a compact storage box with slots that keep the pieces and checkers organized, and a metal handle for carrying. It comes gift packaged, which saves you the wrapping.
