On the table

A good board is a quiet thing: flat, smooth, and exactly the right size. Ours measures 19 by 19 inches and 0.6 inch thick, with 64 squares of 2 inches each — the proportions tournament play calls for, and just as welcome for a casual game at home.

We make it by hand from African palisander and maple, inlaid to form the dark and light squares. The surface is finely finished, so pieces move across it freely and it feels smooth under your hand. That same smoothness makes it simple to wipe clean after a game, and the board is sturdy enough to last.

Only the board is in the package; pieces are not included. We recommend chessmen with a king between 3.75 and 4.25 inches. It arrives gift packaged, which makes it an easy present for the player who already has a favorite set of pieces.

Large, Very good quality
I purchased this for a chess set that had no board. Needed something that would fit the very large chess pieces (King is just over 5 inches tall). This board is very good quality. Beautiful. Completes my set.
